The American Dream

An invitation to an overseas event is the sincerest form of flattery. Thank you Anna Maria. I had the privilege of interviewing her before for my column for Young Star. Nice young lady with big dreams and a big smile. Click on the link below to view the article: SPELLBOUND BY GODSPELL

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make it to the Big Apple. I am far from financial stability to just fly to New York on a whim. Someday, I will be. But alas, the perils of theater and publishing. It really is for the love of the cool, and the love of the craft. But to our kababayans in New York City, do take the time out on May 7 to catch the girl that could, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, on her intimate dinner concert aboard the Hornblower Hybrid.

I (Eye) spy High School Musical’s Corbin Bleu who has recently joined the cast of the amazing Godspell revival at the Circle in the Square theater, George Salazar, the other Filipino in the show besides de Tagle who took front and center from her Hannah Montana and Camp Rock fame, and actor Sam Milby who is trying it out in NYC. Sending him well wishes, and to Anna Maria, keep representin’

Check out the latest poster of Ateneo Blue Repertory’s COMPANY CALL: BLUEREP at 20. A one night only concert featuring Bluereppers past and present. So many productions jam-packed into one night of song and dance.
Directing a concert is different. There’s a smorgasbord of context involved, and well, it’s a bit of a challenge narrowing down and concretizing an actor’s objectives per number since it keeps changing. There are so many nuances per song, and in some songs, they carry out several objectives. Basically, the actors have to be schizo in this show. One minute high school students, the next minute villagers chastising a Batboy, the next minute taxi dancers at the Club Pompeii. There’s also the matter of the alumni who have their own preoccupations, having student actors with other preoccupations, and other matters involved with working with people in school. But the passion is there. Just needs a lil’ push really.
It’s going down to the wire. Two more weeks and we’ve still got a long way to go. But I’m confident that we’ll be able to pull this off - and if ever, it would be one of the biggest feats ever accomplished in Bluerep history. It’s time to rally - including me (yes despite my other obligations)… insurmountable obligations. To quote a line from the show, “We’re all in this together!”
