The 5 plays deal with the theme, “Searching” and tackle man’s search for love, for lost family bonds, for noble ideals, for closure, and for missing loved ones. “Bakit Wala Nang Nagtatagpo sa Philcoa Oberpas”

Atop the Philcoa Overpass, life goes on as usual: a vendor waits for her toys to be sold, a street hustler invites passers-by to solve a puzzle that doesn’t seem to have any solution, and an evangelist shouts hallelujah and asking for some meagre change so that everyone’s soul can be saved. But what happens when a Man and a Woman decides to eyeball right then and there after months of flirting online; will they meet at last and fulfil their promise to leave all these behind? Can a policeman help them find each other? And what do a blind man and a snatcher have to do with a night filled with plans gone wrong, a night of chase and hide-and-seek, of escape and resolve? Atop the Philcoa Overpass, everything can happen, and alas, everything can end and most definitely change.

Proud, damaged and unheeding, the two friends let themselves be lured by the sweet promise of harmless fun, only to find themselves booked in the longest ride to hell.

The fashion world and theater are finally merging.

The cast of Tanghalang Pilipino’s D’EMPEROR revealed, as well as the top fashion designers and couturiers who will be lending their artisanal skills in crafting the costumes to the show.

In this, I couldn’t help but recall my chance encounter with Grace Coddington, creative director of Vogue, at the lobby of the Lincoln Center before watching War Horse last May. Of course I had my photo taken with her, then we got to chatting. She asked if I was a fashion student. I said no, I’m a theater student (though not really. haha). And then she said, well, fashion, theater, they’re very intertwined.

True enough her research for the show would months later translate into a “War Horse-themed” fashion spread for this month’s issue of Vogue - in anticipation of the movie. Amazing right!

D’Emperor will star Jett Pangan as The Emperor and opens in January 2012. Don’t miss it!

Musings of an Avid Theater Buff

Finally… my column on all five musicals showing this month of August came out! Featuring Repertory Philippines’ Seussical the Musical, Dulaang UP’s Rizal X, Tanghalang Pilipino’s Noli Me Tangere, 9 Works Theatrical’s Sweet Charity and Ateneo Blue Repertory’s Little Shop of Horrors. What an exciting month for theater this truly is =)

Setting my sights now on creating a Broadway strip here in Manila so we can become the premiere theater hub of Asia. My god, if it was only possible to pay for all our national debt with Filipino talent alone, then we would have been out of debt ages ago. Imagine all the foreigners we’d attract. Tourism would be at an all-time high. The Filipino is truly brimming with talent - we seriously just need the facilities.
